Swechha – Awareness On Hygiene For Girls

A silent malady is crippling over 200 million women living in rural India. It happens to our mother, sister, and daughter. Still they feel shy to discuss about it. These women, aged between 12 and 47, are precluded from freely engaging in and contributing to their communities simply because they lack access to affordable sanitary protection.

The implications are real – every year, many of these rural girls and women miss upto 50 days cycle per year. Many school aged girls either fall behind or drop out of school entirely!!!

Along with economic challenges they face, cultural stigmas are also preventing many women from easily accessing safe sanitary protection, especially in the rural Indian communities. More alarmingly, many of these women resort to use less hygienic alternatives and risking infections.

The objective of the program is to conduct awareness sessions for adolescent girls in government high schools about “menstruation and related health issues”. This program has been initiated in association with Padala Charitable Trust.

By this Program SKCT empowers The Girl Children in the areas of:

1) Improving menstruation hygiene, personal hygiene, health and diet

2) Usage of Sanitary Napkins and their disposal

3) Educating the parents to follow safe and healthy methods during the monthly cycle

SKCT conducted Hygiene development classes, and continued this program in 5 schools around 2500 girls during 2015-2017.

SKCT distributed Sanitary napkins and Hygiene guidance books to the children under this program.
